Oil painting basics–How should flowers be painted

Everyone has their own favorite flower, so how should we draw it?

Before drawing a flower, study the shape of the flower you are drawing. Are the petals long and thin? Are there many layers?

First of all when painting a floral work or any still life painting, there must be a clear focal point of the picture.

If you want to draw flowers well please consider the following first

  1. Diversity. Directionality.3 Uniformity. 4.Uniqueness.

After determining the focus of the image, you can also add some extra details to make it stand out.

Adding methods:

  1. intensity: increase the contrast between light and dark elements in the point area.

2.Pay close attention to the different types of flowers.

3.texture – look for different textures between flowers and leaves.

4.details added: such as the veins of the leaves, the depiction of water droplets on the petals.

5.Adding drama to the picture: insects, butterflies, caterpillars, dragonflies, bees and insects, etc.

When portraying flowers, it is very important to perform a certain degree of simplification, and it is also important to know the main characteristics of the flower being portrayed.

Do not deliberately draw every detail of the petals, leaves and stalks, resulting in a very messy and unfocused looking picture.

If the flower is placed in an opaque vase, try to imagine the shape of the stalk under the mouth of the vase in order to draw the correct position and proportion of the flower and stalk above.

Some of the leaves are translucent, and the light shining through them will cast unexpected shades of color. The color of the petals of flowers in oil painting is even more unpredictable.
